Today we visited the Ms. Marshall's grade eight students at Selkirk to take part in a mentorship activity called So You Wanna Be Bill Nye? The grade threes were eager to spend the morning up at the "big school" to learn some science facts from these student teachers , experience new scientific concepts, and get a taste of the grade eight science curriculum. Equipped with our wonder journals, we headed up town to take part in this unique experience.
The grade threes were partnered up and sent around to each lab station, all of which was run by the grade eight students. Their task was to keep track of three things in their journals:
-what they wondered about
-what rocked (interesting things they came across)
-what stuck (memorable parts of the field trip)
The Stations:
- Parts of a Sheep Eye
- Parallel/Series
Circuits
- Magic
Milk
- Red
Cabbage pH Indicator
- Van der
Graaf Generator
- Electricity
and Magnetism
- Measuring:
beakers, rulers, balance scales
- Ray Boxes
- Microscopes
- Rocks, Crystals, and Fossils
- Non-Newtonian Fluid
- Sun, Moon, Seasonal Cycles

Stay tuned as Selkirk will venture down to Marysville at the end of the month to take part in a STEM activity hosted by the grade threes!
